Made to order
Some things shouldn't come off a shelf. A sideboard that fills an alcove to the millimetre. A headboard cut to an old bed's odd width. A conservatory set laid out to a plan. Cane panels supplied loose to a cabinet maker who'll fit them himself.
We make:
- Cane-fronted sideboards up to 2000mm, and wardrobes to your opening
- Dining tables to your dimensions, in any of our finishes
- Headboards to your bed width
- Peacock chairs in your own fabric
- Room divider screens
- Bar cabinets to your dimensions
- Conservatory sets to a plan or a sketch
- Cane panels for cabinet makers and joiners
- Colour matching on any piece, to something you already own
Re-caning and restoration
Woven furniture is one of the few things left that is genuinely worth repairing. A chair with a blown cane seat is not firewood; it's a morning's work.
We re-cane and restore:
- Hand-caned chair seats and backs — the traditional six-way pattern, hole by hole
- Machine-woven cane panels set in spline — cabinet doors, chair backs, bed ends
- Loose or broken bindings, and spliced repairs to cracked rattan poles
- Stripping and refinishing in any of our stains
We work on pieces you didn't buy from us. Most of what comes to us is inherited.
How to get a quote
- Email support@homartuk.com.
- For made to order: the dimensions, the finish, and a photograph or sketch of the space if you have one. Tell us what has to fit and what it has to hold.
- For restoration: a photograph of the whole piece, a close-up of the damage, and rough dimensions. A hand-caned seat is a different job from a machine-woven panel and costs more, so the close-up genuinely matters.
We come back with a written quotation, normally within two working days, with the price, the finish and the lead time. Typical lead time is 4–8 weeks. Nothing starts until you've approved it in writing.
Two honest warnings
Made-to-order work can't be returned under the 14-day rule, because it's made to your specification. That's the law, and it's why we confirm every dimension in writing first.
Restoration sometimes reveals more than the photographs showed. An old frame can hide a split under a binding. If we find something that changes the price, we stop and tell you before going further — we never do extra work and invoice for it afterwards. And if a piece genuinely isn't worth repairing, we'll say so rather than take the money.
Getting a piece to us
Small items — a dining chair, a cabinet door — go by parcel carrier at your cost. Anything larger, tell us your postcode and we'll price a collection. Pack it well: a chair with a blown seat can still arrive with a broken leg.
